The new Hitachi ZX135-7EB model is designed to meet growing demand for emission-free operation, particularly in urban and residential environments where noise and exhaust emissions are regulated.
According to Hitachi, the electric 13-tonner is not only quieter and cleaner than its diesel-powered ZX135-7 but also brings lower downtime, because of the reduced maintenance requirements.
The excavator can operate in two modes: battery-powered operation using 198 kWh lithium-ion batteries, or wired grid assist mode, which allows the machine to continue working while connected to a CEE 400 V AC three-phase power supply. This dual-mode approach enables extended working hours and continuous operation.
The electric drive system, including battery status and motor load factor, can be monitored remotely. Lower external sound levels allow increased flexibility in working hours, particularly in noise-sensitive areas.
Safety features include the Aerial Angle camera system, providing a 270-degree bird’s-eye view of the working area.
“Our largest battery-powered excavator is capable of working productively and efficiently on urban and residential construction projects,” said Norihiko Kinugawa, product manager at Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe). “The ZX135-7EB combines robust build quality with a charging system designed to support daily operation.”
He added: “We continue to respond to growing demand for zero-emission equipment while addressing customer requirements for safety, productivity and reduced life-cycle costs.”
It is noteworthy that while the Hitachi name is prominent on the boom of the machine in the publicity photos, the new Landcros brand is also subtly inroduced on the upper works. In October 2025 Hitachi announced that it was beginning an 18-month period of brand transformation: it said that by April 2027 the Hitachi brand will have disappeared from its construction equipment and been entirely replaced by Landcros.
