Housing association Abri is replacing four 1960s tower blocks at Sawyers Close in Dedworth with new accommodation.
The four eight-storey blocks 鈥 Winwood, Broadleys, Grasmere and Hale 鈥 are being replaced by a new development, The Granges.
The development, being carried out for Abri by Hill Group, will ultimately replace 192 flats with 413 new homes built to modern standards.
First block to come down is Winwood, which is being pulled down by demolition specialist J Mould using a high-reach demolition excavator.
The other three blocks will come down between 2027 and 2030. Residents have had the choice to either move into the other tower blocks or be found homes elsewhere locally as their homes are emptied and demolished.
The regeneration has been made possible by 拢176m funding from Abri, including 拢34.4m awarded from Homes England. The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead planning approval for the development, along with additional land transferred to Abri from the council, increased the scale of the proposed site 鈥 both allowing more homes to be built and enabling construction to start before the need to demolish the current buildings.
Construction of the first 182 homes is now under way, with the first being delivered in early 2027.
Abri regional managing director Dasos Christou said: 鈥淭hese four tower blocks are over 60 years old and whilst they have been great homes for our residents, their age is really starting to show. Abri is replacing them with its largest ever regeneration, The Granges, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to providing safe, warm and affordable homes.鈥
